About

A Life in Theatre

Jarom Brown holds an MLitt and MFA in Shakespeare and Performance from Mary Baldwin University, where he trained at the American Shakespeare Center's acclaimed Blackfriars Playhouse in Staunton, Virginia. His MFA thesis on "The Influence of Commedia dell'Arte in The Comedy of Errors" was published in the essay collection, Prepare to Rove.

With over two decades of experience across stage, film, and audio, Jarom has built a career that spans the full breadth of the theatrical arts. As an actor, he has performed with companies including the Kingsmen Shakespeare Company, Grassroots Shakespeare, Sundance Summer Theater, and Hale Center Theater, taking on roles ranging from Dromio of Ephesus and Duke Orsino to The Ghost of Christmas Present and Henry Condell.

As a director, Jarom has helmed more than twenty productions — from Shakespeare's Q1 Hamlet and As You Like It to contemporary works like Blithe Spirit and Sleepy Hollow — at venues across Utah and Virginia. He has also served as an adjudicator for the Utah Shakespeare Festival's regional Shakespeare competition.

A dedicated educator, Jarom has taught acting, stagecraft, directing, voice and movement, and theatre appreciation across six universities, including Utah Valley University, Weber State University, Utah Tech University, and Utah State University. He has designed and led workshops for audiences ranging from grade school students to corporate professionals.

Jarom is a certified Scrum Master and an Eagle Scout. He currently serves as Technical Director of the Colleges of the Fenway and the Rozzie Square Theater in Boston, and is the owner and operator of Motley Sounds LLC, where he works as a producer, voice-over artist, corporate trainer, and creative consultant.
